Mrs Jones from Reception wanted to transform her dull, outdoor teaching area into an exciting and colourful learning space. So the children looked at animals, birds, fish and plants, and created strange and wonderful creatures using collage, clay and mosaic. Then I took all their designs and painted them up onto wood panels, and finally attached their clay work and mosaic.
At the opening of the mural, an exhibition of all their designs was shown, alongside photographs of the workshops. The Head Mistress, Mrs Whitman, and Mrs Jones were extremely pleased with the results. The children were very excited and proudly pointed out their designs.
‘The mural has totally transformed the space’ Mrs Jones said, ‘So we now have a playground to be proud of.’
