‘Heritage mural’

Pickhurst Junior School, West Wickham, 2008

Paint and mosaic - made with Years 3, 4, 5 and 6

At Pickhurst Junior School I was invited to work with pupils on a local heritage mural during a residency. The school held a competition to enter pictures which reflected their local borough, past and present. The winning designs included a wonderful drawing of Crystal Palace glasshouse on fire, the monumental fountain in the market square, and the vibrant local shopping centre.

Also pictured in the mural was the local countryside, complete with steam train and farmers, and former famous residents; H.W. Wells, Enid Blyton and David Bowie. In the workshops children helped me to paint the final design. We also completed the mosaic figure of Enid Blyton and the fountain.

It was a fun piece to create and very eclectic in content.
